Finding the right therapist with guest expert Holly Copping

Dermal therapyWith so many salons and clinics offering advanced beauty treatments such as laser, IPL, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and skin needling, finding the right therapist isn’t always easy.

Being a little bit picky is a good thing – these kinds of treatments require a high level of skill and do involve some risk, so it’s important to know you’re in safe hands.

So how do you choose a qualified therapist who will ensure you’ll get the professional treatment you deserve?

If you’re undergoing a complex treatment, you’ll need the expertise of a dermal therapist to ensure you get the best possible care.

Only therapists who hold a formal, nationally-recognised qualification in Dermal Therapy or Cosmetic Dermal Science are allowed to use this title, and their qualification should be on display.

To be completely sure your therapist has the technical know-how to perform safe and effective treatments, ask them how long their course was – comprehensive training is usually delivered over six months full time, or longer.

As well as having the right qualifications, a good dermal therapist will offer an in-depth consultation before any treatment.

They should ask you about your medical history and allergies to ensure your treatment is as risk-free as possible.

A dermal therapist should also provide you with honest advice about the most suitable treatments, so that you get the best possible outcome whatever your concern.

A fully qualified dermal therapist will also be able to tell you about the difference between expected side effects and potential complications of their treatments.

They may also offer advice on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and pre- and post-operative care.

When making a decision about who is the right therapist for you, listen to your instincts.

Unfortunately there are some less than reputable clinics and therapists out there, so if you’re not feeling 100% comfortable, explore your other options.
